LF & LO Forklift Driving Licences

In the realm of forklift driving, there are two types of licences you can acquire - LO & LF. There are different licences, as they authorise you to operate different kinds of vehicles.
An LO licence qualifies you to only operate a load-shifting order picker and a 'turret truck', which is also referred to as a VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) truck.
On an LO picking truck, the driver is required to wear a harness as they are raised or lowered in order to pick the stock that is required.

Whereas, an LF Licence qualifies you to operate any other forklift vehicle that isn't specifically classified under the LO licence. Forklift vehicles that fall under the LF category are usually controlled from the driver's seat, and used to transport heavy loads or several items at once.

So, which licence should you get?

The natural choice for people looking to get a forklift licence is to go with an LF licence as it allows you to drive a greater range of vehicles. This may improve your job prospects and help get you placed in a position faster. LF licences are often required in manufacturing, logistics and construction.

Since, LO licences enable you to operate load-shifting order pickers and 'turret trucks', an LO licence will allow you to be apply for forklift driving roles in warehouses. This is because these vehicles enable workers to retrieve items from the tall shelves that are in warehouses.

Having both a LF and LO licence would be the most beneficial, since it would make you eligible for basically all available forklift driving opportunities.

How Do You Get A LF and/or LO Licence?

To acquire a LF or LO Licence, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Successfully complete and pass a LF and/or LO training course conducted by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
- Proficient enough at English that enables the safe execution of high risk work
