The Sydney Metro is a privately owned extension to the existing train system and is set to be the largest public transport project in Australia. Sydney Metro will add 31 new stations in the city, Northwest and Southwest, and propose a faster, safer and more reliable way to commute. Sydney Metro is expected to operate at a 98 percent on-time reliability, with a service every 4 minutes during peak travel times. Sydney Metro is expected to deliver big things in terms of keeping Sydney moving, and ensuring that more people are more connected to where they need to go.

With approximately 200,000 more commuters expected to pass through Central station by 2036, and the strain of the growing population on the public transport system, the addition of the Sydney Metro station will provide some much-needed relief from the increased congestion that will be experienced.

The massive Sydney Metro project will be conducted in two stages. The first stage will involve the construction of the Sydney Metro Northwest (formerly known as the North West Rail Link). This line will connect Rouse Hill to Chatswood, with the addition of eight new railway stations in the growing Hills district, and the promise of fifteen trains per hour during peak time.
The second stage of the Sydney Metro project will be the construction of Metro City and Southwest. The development of this line will connect the city with the Bankstown area, and improve the frequency of train services. Along this line, seven brand new stations will be constructed, and several stations will be upgraded between Bankstown and Sydenham.

In order to implement this new system and improve travel around Sydney, major construction will take place beyond 2024.
This will create many job opportunities for rail workers and construction labourers, in a number of locations across Sydney. This makes it an exciting and fruitful time to be a rail worker or a qualified labourer able to work on its construction. The Sydney Metro Project could potentially provide relatively long-term employment, with its execution expected to span over the next seven years. This major public transportation project will help stimulate the job market and increase the job opportunities available for local rail workers.
