A steel fixer will work to reinforce structures of concrete. Steel fixers follow engineering drawings that detail specific materials and spacing used to set out work in building and construction. Steel fixers cut and shape steel bars. They may also weld, wire and clip steel materials into place. Some steel fixers will assist in the manufacturing process of materials. The working conditions of which steel fixers work may be on site or in pre-cast concrete plants.

The first step in becoming a steel fixer requires you to complete a traineeship with an employer. This traineeship will take up to 18 months to complete. You will also be required to have a few tickets including High Risk Work License, Working at Heights ticket and a White Card.
Most of the time spent with your employer will formal on-the-job training. The employer will assess your skills. Once competent in all areas an Australian nationally recognised qualification will be awarded.
