A trade assistant may work in many different trades including but not limited to being a Boilermakers assistant, fitters assistant, metal forgers assistant, welders assistant. This role may require you to assist in placing and stabilising products in the right position for work to be carried out. An assistant will ensure all tools and materials are available for the tradesperson to carry out their work. The trades assistant role may also require you to operate machinery and cutting and shaping tools.

A trades assistant is usually someone who has completed their apprenticeship. This position will lead them into the areas that they wish to specialise in. Another way of entry into this position is to complete a Certificate II in Engineering (production or Fabrication) at TAFE. This may take up to 2 years to complete. These TAFE courses can be located in any major Australian city including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hobart, Perth and Adelaide.
